Phone interview
Print screens of Phone interview being edited.

This image shows the interview that we conducted in the left hand box and the cutaways that were being edited in the right hand box, when both sides were edited and completed they were placed next to each other in the time line at the bottom and also joined by music.
This print screened image shows where the audio is put and then dragged onto the time line so it runs along with the video/images.
This print screened images shows the video and audio together and also shows the edited cutaways in the left hand corner after being edited.
Video of phone interview
To conduct our phone interview we filmed our cutaways first, to film our cutaways we needed certain props such as different types of phones, we filmed 13 cutaways so the slotted in between each question in our interview. After the cutaways were finished we then went to a quiet place with nothing distracting in the background; this is so our audience has full concentration towards the interviewee. Once all the filming was finished we uploaded the whole of the filming up to adobe premier where we edited out the questions and put all of the filming together in the right order.

evaluation
Whilst we were producing our short documentries,we not have many problems as we filmed it in two seperate parts, cutaways and interviews.
When we started to edit the cutaways and interview on adobe we firstly used the razor tool to split up all of the thirteen cutways that we had filmed. I then edited out the questions so only the person answering them would be heard in the end project.
If I where to change anything about what I did whilst filming and editing my short documentry then I would of spent more time making sure it ran smoothly and there was always an image on screen, whereas my first one had a small part of black at the beginning. I would also make sure I filmed the interview in a relevent area with the correct mise en scene with the correct eye line of the person to the camera. My first interview had music on it until I uploaded it the youtube where the music no longer played due to complications, now I have learnt that I should have checked for all comlications on the short documentry before uploading it.

The two videos above are both documentaries, one of which is about the simpsons and the other is about jaws. The questions are edited out of them and the camera is positioned in a way that the interviewee looks like they are talking to the camera direct, this gives them a direct address and reaches out the the audience.
Codes and conventions of filming and editing interviews
- Interviewee positioned to the left or right of frame-if more than one, it alternates.
- Filmed in medium shot, medium close up and close up.
- Questions are edited out.
- Mise en scene-background reinforces the content of the interview or is relevant to the interviewee, providing more information about them in terms of occupation or personal environment.
- Graphics are used to anchor who the person is on screen and relevance to the topic of the documentary-subline.
- The interviewee looks at the interviewer, not directly at the camera.
- Positioning of the interviewer is therefore important. If the interviewee is on the right of the frame, the interviewer is on the left of the camera. The interviewer should sit or stand as close to the camera as possible.
- Framing follows the rule of thirds-eyeline roughly a third of the way down the screen.
- They're never filmed with a light source behind the interviewee i.e infront of the window or sun behind them.
- Cutaways are edited into the videos for two reasons-break up interviews and illustrate what they're talking about.- to avoid jump cuts, when questions are edited out.
- Cutaways are either: archive material suggested by something said in an interview and therefore filmed after the interview. Sometimes aspects of the interviewer are filmed with another camera e.g. extreme close ups of eye, mouth and hands and then used as cut aways.
